"No duty is more urgent than that of returning thanks."
Jeff Jones’ passion for sports and journalism began at a young age.
He recalls shouting the play-by-play commentary of backyard basketball games—that he was playing in! Often times that commentary was repeated that night over dinner, and once again in school the next morning. Anyone—and EVERYONE—willing to listen, would get an earful from this elementary-aged “broadcaster.” Years later, Jeff saw an opportunity to turn that lifelong passion, into a career.
Jeff studied communication at Trinity University in San Antonio, Texas. As a student-athlete (football) he quickly learned how to use his onfield experience to help him become a better sports journalist.
After completing his undergraduate work at Trinity, Jeff went on to earn two Master’s degrees, one in education and one in communication.
Just months after graduating, Jeff won a national talent search that allowed him to travel to the NBA All-Star Game, as the league’s “All-Star Reporter.”
In 2014, Jeff began a 2-year-stint as a sports reporter and anchor for WOAI in San Antonio. Then in August 2016, Jones joined the sports team at CBS North Carolina, just in time for football season!
When he isn’t on-air, Jones enjoys working out, watching movies, and cheering-on his Auburn Tigers (it’s a long story, but he’s a huge fan).
